IRA I. SILVERSTEIN STATE SENATOR-SENATE DISTRICT 8 2951 WEST DEVON AVENUE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60659 Dear Senator: Last week I spoke on the telephone to Rachel at your Chicago office location. I told her that at the Town Hall Meeting (July 7), I would attempt to deliver to you personally, copies of my writings to Mayor Daley, and others; along with two newspaper articles, regarding the establishment of a "Chicago Kindness Day," (a day to be honored and celebrated annually) as a means for both combating the rampant, wanton "acts of teen (and adult) violence" in the city; and for bringing greater solidarity, interconnectedness camaraderie, and unity along the diverse ethnic and cultural groups. Please read these writings in their entirety. I'm confident that you and your family will find them growth and life-furthering. Senator, the initiation and promotion of a "Chicago Kindness Day"/Campaign (Kindness-in-action is the most powerful technique for changing lives) to the degree that it becomes "up front" and in "sharp focus" (like "going green has become) in the minds of your constituents and the citizenry and "family of Chicago," would translate into overt "acts of Kindness" and regularity, since the mind acts on what it is fed, and what the mind steadfastly focuses its attention on, expands and snowballs. Senator, if a "Chicago Kindness Day"/Campaign saves even a single life, it is worth it. One fatality is too many. The Talmud states: "Whosoever saves a single life is as if he had saved the whole world; whosoever destroys a single life is as if he had destroyed the whole world."
Senator, think on this: Wouldn't it be wonderful if Senate District 8 became the birthplace of a "Chicago
Kindness Day?" If this idea "catches on," the "sky's the limit." Wouldn't that be an exhilarating experience and accomplishment for you, your loved ones, and your constituents? Senator, you're regarded as a "mover and a shaker," one who "steps-up," and does not shrink from a challenge. you have the power to make a "Chicago Kindness Day"/Campaign a social and community issue. Let's "go for it." Norman Kozak |
